K9s For Warriors is the nation’s leading provider of trained Service Dogs for Veterans. We are determined to end Veteran suicide by providing highly trained Service Dogs to Veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI and/or MST. Many of our dogs are rescued, meaning your support helps save two lives — a dog and a Veteran in need of a battle buddy.

What is a Battle Buddy?

In the military, a battle buddy is a fellow service member assigned to always have their comrade’s back, on and off the battlefield. We’ve taken that concept to heart. Here at K9s For Warriors, our battle buddies are Service Dogs specially trained to always be at their Warriors’ side.

Meet Joe and Eagle

Joe, a Navy Veteran, says that before he met Eagle, he couldn’t feel happiness and rarely slept. Riddled with anxiety, he often wondered how he would face another day … until he found K9s For Warriors. During this time, Eagle had been rescued from a shelter and was training for his true calling — saving a Veteran’s life. The day Joe and Eagle met was a day that changed both of their lives forever. Now, with Eagle by his side, Joe is taking his life back after years of suffering from PTSD.

Eagle’s Training

In addition to basic training cues like Sit, Stay and Come, our Service Dogs are trained to mitigate a Veteran’s symptoms of PTSD. They are taught a variety of skills that help Veterans feel more comfortable and safe, including:
• Look: to watch behind their Warrior
• Stand: to create a barrier in crowded places
• Lap: to provide deep compression therapy during heightened anxiety
