The team will row 3,000 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the Caribbean. The expedition will depart on the 3rd of December, 2023 (subject to weather) and is likely to arrive in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua in mid-January 2024.

The team will consist of 12 recently befriended individuals from all around the world. They will live in close quarters in an ocean rowing boat united by the common goal of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The rowing schedule consists of 12 hours of rowing per person per day, broken into 3-hour shifts. Each rower will spend 3 hours rowing and then take the next 3 hours to recover, eat, sleep, or do other chores around the boat. This pattern continues 24/7 for the entire journey across.

The team will take more than 1.5 million oar strokes, each rower burning more than 5,000 calories per day. Ocean rowers eat freeze dried expedition food, as well as a variety of high calorie snacks. Fresh water comes from the water maker, which converts salt water into drinking water.

The team will push their mind and body to the limit as they battle with sleep deprivation, large waves up to 30ft, weight loss, and the physical extremes inflicted by a task of this magnitude. They will be left with their own thoughts and the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean.

The cost for Alex’s participation in this expedition will be self-funded, so all proceeds generated will benefit her chosen charity - K9s For Warriors.

Alex Overdijking was born in Ayrshire, Scotland before moving with her family to Southwest Florida in 2008. She graduated from Stetson University with a degree in accounting and business analytics in 2018. She joined Siemens as a participant in their Finance Leadership Development Program and now works as a Financial Analyst in Dallas, TX.
